Home from RWA 2018 (AKA Rita Hunting Season is now officially closed)

It's Tuesday, I am home from Denver. RWA 2018 is in the bag.  What an incredible experience to be part of the RITA whirl. I am so proud of my little story, "Dancing with the Duke's Heir."  I enjoyed meeting so many people and making new connections. As always, I adore meeting readers at the Harlequin signing, which is one of my favorite events, and at the literacy signing.  This year I did a signing for Montlake, too, which was great.

I was also so proud to be part of Harlequin Books. The publishing house led the way with the most RITA nominations (13) and I believe the most wins (4). BUT, more than that, I was proud of how professionally Harlequin represented themselves. Their events were well thought out, put together with polish, and  were aimed at all aspects of conference attendee. There were events for the Harlequin author, the Harlequin reader, the prospective author, and events for agents.

Now, it's time to get back to work. Book #3 of the Royals of Kuban is due out next week, "Awakened by the Prince's Passion," so there's reviewing and launch work to do. Book #2 of next year's series will be back next week for revisions from my editor, so there's no rest!

Character inspirations for the Cornish Dukes

This week I got my revision notes back for Vennor Penlerick's story, the very last one in the dukes' series, so I will going into the writing cave shortly for a couple weeks while I tweak this finale to the series into shape. But, before I do, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the inspirations for the four heroes. It's hard to believe this time last year, the series was just beginning to take shape and now it's out there for readers!  So here's how it began. Eaton Falmage , Lord Lynford (heir to the Duke of Bude). He's meant to be a regional fellow, more concerned with what he can do at home for his people than the glitter of London, and with his own secret to hide, he'd prefer to stay out of Society's eye. While he didn't physically embody Aidan Turner, he did embody some  of the similar attributes of Turner's character, Ross Poldark. So, I started there for some inspiration about Eaton. Fun fact: about three months after I fin...
