Swim a thon 2015 is here!

 For the next month, I'll be supporting the King Aquatic Swim Club's annual fundraiser, their swim-a-thon. I'd like you to consider supporting it too. This program is ranked as one of the top 12 programs in the country, on the same list as North Baltimore and other Olympic quality programs.  The money raised helps create scholarships for kids who need financial help, funds travel for our team, and pays for relay entries.

If you'd like to help out, the first 10 donors to contribute $10.00 or more will receive the 2015 Bronwyn Scott duet, Rakes of the Caribbean.  Here's the link, just be sure to leave your address after you donate so I can send copies to you!

Day 4 of the Viscountdown!: The Bickford Fuse

On p. 185 in Chapter 14, Valerian and Phillippa and her brother, Beldon, have a dinner conversation about a man named Bickford who is patenting a new kind of fuse for blasting in the mines. Valerian and Beldon decide to ride over the next day and talk with him about his invention. The Bickford fuse was a big step forward for mining safety since it took away a significant amount of risk miners faced when lighting the traditional reed fuses. Bickford did exist, he did craft this fuse and did design his own production line for mass producing that fuse in the 1830s.
