Brenda Novak Auction! Check out all the goodies

For the last few years, I've been participating in the Brenda Novak auction to raise money for juvenile diabetes research. This year, I've got a Bronwyn Scott basket filled with all kinds of goodies like lunch with me, a dedication page, a Victoria's Secret night gown and copies of three Bronwyn Scott books! Plus a book club visit from me. There's a ton of other great things on the auction too. Last year, the online auction netted 250,000 dollars! The auction runs until the end of May, so check it out! It's Dec. 20th. (Although I did post this late Wed. night since I'm on Pacific Standard Time). Day 4 of the Viscountdown!: The Bickford Fuse

On p. 185 in Chapter 14, Valerian and Phillippa and her brother, Beldon, have a dinner conversation about a man named Bickford who is patenting a new kind of fuse for blasting in the mines. Valerian and Beldon decide to ride over the next day and talk with him about his invention. The Bickford fuse was a big step forward for mining safety since it took away a significant amount of risk miners faced when lighting the traditional reed fuses. Bickford did exist, he did craft this fuse and did design his own production line for mass producing that fuse in the 1830s.
